SPRING SUMMER 2020 HOME DECOR TRENDS TO GET YOU INSPIRED….

“Despite the forecast live like it´s SPRING….”

Simple2Elegant´s inspirational new trends…

Spring Summer 2020

• Seawead Greens & Summer browns
• Turquoise Textures
• Taupe with Burnt Volcano
• Emerald Green with Raw Linen Texture

It´s been some time since I have put pen to paper and shared my passion. I have been so busy focusing on building a Real Estate business in a country that has now become my new home, Portugal, since re-locating from South Africa.

This pause in time has made me realize how much I have missed sharing my passion. I am now in the process of doing a Post Graduate Interior Decorating course in London and this has really inspired me.

I love using simple elements to create change in my home, make simple food and set simple tables (although my favourite will always be setting more elaborate and stylish dinner tables), at the moment it is just the two of us and keeping it simple is key.

It´s becoming so much more evident in the past 7 weeks of lock-down that simple changes can uplift the spirits.

With most of us now being restricted to home living, its the perfect time to let our own creativity shine. I hope that by imparting my passion for simplicity, elegance and simple living I can get you inspired to make simple changes without spending money by recycling what you have. I have started going through my garage, cupboards and loft and have been so surprised about how much I have forgotten about.

My inspiration always comes from nature, simple elements around me and colour. Researching on various social media pages also gives me a little extra inspiration, especially at the moment where visiting stores and my favourite garden nursery is no longer possible. It´s time to get inspired by moving, painting and changing rugs & scatter cushions.

Japondi Style..

This new interior style comes from the words “Japan” and “Scandi” and is one of the most exciting trends for 2020. he Scandi style will never date. It´s a style that combines modern and rustic neutral materials together. The use of linen, cotton & wool and various natural textures that all for the natural woods to become the focal points in the interior design of rooms. The Japondi lifestyle reflects simplicity, restraint and functionalism.

 TIP:

Achieving this style is an art in itself and you need to enjoy uncluttered spaces with dark base shades or natural woods adding contrast. Layering different textures is key to achieving the look. Keeping clean lines, simple furniture design of high quality. Whether you have a neutral or rich coloured palette in your home this style can be easily introduced. Reduce clutter and bring in vibrant neutral shades and natural elements like indoor plants…One of my favourite trends for 2020.

Add Abstract expressions with Cushions….

Source credit: Marks & Spencer

Is your living room looking a little tired & old ? You don´t need to re-decorate the whole room, recycling scatter covers or buy a few on-line, new covers give any room a fresh new look and feel. The new abstract, bold geometrics and hand drawn sketches that are on trend for 2020 give a playful look to a room. This feel evokes emotions and especially at the moment when we all need a little upliftment, creates a happy mood. The colours are punchy, playful and allows for each one of us to express our own personalities in our homes.

TIP:

Firstly, always try & purchase really good quality inners for your cushions. It may cost you more initially but in the long run it will prove to be less expensive as they will last longer. My personal pet hate is when scatter cushions look like pancakes on a couch (its only my thing) and make no effect at all, although maybe a Shabby Chic style they would be fine.  Geometric and abstract design is best used on cushion covers, duvet covers, statement rugs and wall paper designs as it´s a temporary trend.

Oversized glass vases are very on trend….

Buy recycled or sustainable glassware whenever possible! Adding a pop of colour into your Spring Summer 2020 home decor is easy with oversized vessels. Whether you group them together or use them individually they will always make a statement. They look amazing whether displayed on their own or clustered together with a few of your favourite Spring Summer blooms. If flowers or twigs are not your thing then so many coloured glass vessels don´t need any embellishment, they make amazing statements on their own.

TIP:

Flowers, twigs or wildflowers are the most inexpensive way of adding energy and life into any space. To create a minimalist feel, utilize one or two blooms of varying heights and colours helps to create an inexpensive yet simply elegant focal point for the Spring Summer 2020 season ahead. Perfect for entrance halls, bathrooms and open plan living spaces.

Hope you get inspired to change some of your decorative elements for the Spring Summer 2020 Season..

SPRING | SUMMER 2019 HOME DECOR TRENDS TO GET YOU INSPIRED….

“Spring is a lovely reminder of how BEAUTIFUL change can truly be….”

Embracing Spring/Summer 2019 & it´s inspirational new trends..

Spring is already here and I am looking forward to long summer days, walks on the beach & of course Gin & Tonics.  Spring Summer is my favourite time of the year. It´s a time where nature reminds us of how beautiful life truly is. Every new season brings with it changes in design, textures and colours. There are no escaping trends, they are visible everywhere, in fashion, food & home décor. I love making small changes every season to my home. With a neutral palette it is easy to give my home a fresh look without spending too much money. A change is as good as a holiday!

Pantone´s 2019 colour palette choice helped to inspire my mood boards. For a more indepth view of the Pantone´s colour palette for 2019 pop onto their site at www.pantone.com

Keeping abreast of trends is a passion. The mood boards reflect some of my favourite colours for Spring Summer 2019. The smallest change in decorative elements can add a whole new vibe to your home.  Summer is one of the most beautiful seasons of the year where the future always seems more positive. Embrace the season and add some colour into your living space.

Nordic "Scandi" Style..

The Scandi style will never date. It´s a style that will continue to be on trend for Spring Summer 2019 and for years to come.  Last year the pattern was more global, this season you will see a more subtler mix of understated patterns & textures. The Scandi lifestyle reflects calmness and gives you a space to retreat away from the hectic pace of the outside world.

 TIP:

Achieving this style is an art in itself and you need to enjoy uncluttered spaces with neutral palettes. Layering different textures is also key to achieving the look. Wicker, wool, sheep-skin and bleached wood are most of the common materials used in “Scandi” Decor. Keeping the lines clean & simple is a must. The pieces of furniture you purchase are generally multi-purposed giving it functionality.

Add Texture with Cushions….

Is your living room looking a little tired & old ? You don´t need to re-decorate the whole room. Changing your cushions can bring a fresh new look to your room. Found these fabulous textured cushion covers at H&M Home Portugal. H&M offer a wide selection of covers at good prices.

 TIP:

Always try & purchase good inners for your cushions. It may cost you more initially but in the long run it will prove to be less expensive. Updating your living place is easy by changing cushion outers & some simple decorative elements. My collection of scatter cushion covers has grown over the years enabling me to change looks often.

Large Recycled Glass Vases to keep you on Trend…..

Sustainability is key this year. Recycling glass producers are creating vibrant glassware. Adding a pop of colour into your Spring Summer home decor is easy with vibrant glassware. These recycled glass vases will look amazing whether displayed on their own or clustered together with a few of your favourite Spring Summer blooms.

 TIP:

At this time of the year there are always beautiful fields filled with beautiful Spring/Summer blooms. Take a moment to spend time in nature. Pick a few wild blooms to add to your amazing glass vases. To create a minimalist feel utilize one or two blooms of varying heights and colours helping to create an  inexpensive yet simply elegant focal point for Spring.

A TOUCH OF ELEGANCE ON VALENTINE´S DAY WITH A DINNER SETTING FOR TWO…

“Once in a while in the middle of an ordinary life LOVE gives us a fairytale”

Sharing the love today and always….

February is the month of love. Valentine´s Day is a made up holiday but it´s always a good excuse to share a little extra LOVE. Be it with your girlfriends, boyfriend, husband or wife, CELEBRATE it in your own special way. Mine is always celebrated at home. Sharing an intimate evening with my hubby is our way to celebrate.

Loved creating this beautiful table setting that was inspired by this beautiful antique silk tablecloth given to me by my mother.  I have been feeling rather nostalgic lately so the classic Red and Black seemed the perfect colour combination. This setting can be used for any special occasion when you wanting to share the love with that someone special.  The classic RED rose symbolizes love, passion and beauty. Fresh flowers are always nice to have on the table. Red roses are one of my favourite flowers. No matter your style, setting a beautiful table always makes for a perfect celebration. Sharing LOVE is one of the most beautiful feelings in life. Share it, live it, feel it.

Simple use of red, black and silverware created this tablescape….

  • White crockery layered and placed on black plate charges with diamante detail adding a little sparkle
  • Black & White marbled cutlery
  • Antique silverware that we have collected over time, adding a touch nostalgia
  • Antique deep red silk tablecloth as an overlay to the existing damask tablecloth underneath
  • Fresh red roses – the perfect finishing touch, always use fresh flowers where possible, a simple bunch of roses can go a long way if you add greenery to your arrangement
  • A beautiful table setting always sets the mood for the perfect dining experience, make it SPECIAL, no matter what the occasion

A touch of SPARKLE…..

The sparkle detail on the edging of the plate charges adds a touch of elegance to the intimate dinner for two table setting.

The traditional RED ROSE...

The RED rose always symbolizes LOVE, no matter whether its just a single stem or a bunch they make the perfect gift for Valentine´s Day.

The PLACE Setting...

The layering of white tableware on black charges placed atop mirrored glass with a mix of antique collectables adds a beautiful elegant style to my dinner for two. .

Simple2Elegant Autumn Inspiration Colour Board 2018

Simple2Elegant Autumn Inspiration Colour Board 2018

SIMPLE2ELEGANT AUTUMN INSPIRATION COLOUR BOARD 2018
Autumn paints in colours that Summer has never seen”…….Autumn inspiration

Sharing my Autumn Inspiration Board…

Autumn inspiration 2018. This year, Simple2Elegant found Autumn inspiration in two beautiful classic lamps that were stored in the garage. The mixed golden tones, soft fringing and the reflection of the crystal drops was were the features that inspired me. The liquors in the crystal decanters combined with the reflection of colours in the crystal glassware added depth to the magical Autumn tones.  Look for inspiration in a simple accessory, a piece of furniture, a tablecloth or even a plant in your garden before dashing out to spend unnecessary money. Trends are forever changing but classic items can always be incorporated into contemporary decor in different ways.

TIP: Never toss out good quality home ware. Create a storage area where you can store items  and recycle when necessary. Quality home ware is timeless.

Tips to help you find your Autumn inspiration…..

  • Choose a Autumn colour palette that embraces your mood for the season.
  • Choose Autumn Décor trends that suit all the elements in your home so that you create a cozy environment for family & friends.
  • Bring out the Colours of Autumn in cozy blankets & throws to put onto couches or baskets.
  • Bring Autumn aromas into your home with great D.I.Y scents (ideas in my next blog).
  • Bring Autumn into every room by adding new covers to your scatter cushions (I have accumulated a few covers over the years and keep rotating these throughout the year), area rugs, bed & bath linen.
  • Making simple changes to your home does not need to cost the earth, find inspiration to make simple changes recycling what you already have.

Hope my Autumn inspiration inspires you to make simple changes to your living space…get creative!!

Simple Spring 2018 trends to get you inspired

Simple Spring 2018 trends to get you inspired

SPRING 2018 HOME DECOR TRENDS TO GET YOU INSPIRED….

Goodbye WINTER, Hello SPRING, it´s time for a NEW start…..

Embracing Spring 2018 & it´s Colour palette..

This winter seems to have been so much longer than the last and I cannot wait to bring a little colour into my home. Whether it´s in the form of a bunch of spring blooms or a few accessories it´s the perfect time to give your indoor space a makeover. I spent a little time researching and seeking inspiration and hope that you get inspired with these great SPRING decor trends. Changing your look does not always need to cost a fortune.  What´s IMPORTANT to remember when keeping up with trends, is that they are just trends and generally are only in for a season and out for the next. My personal rule when updating my home is to keep the changes simple by updating with simple accessories: cushions, curtains, artwork or simply by adding greenery or fresh flowers.

Colour palette for THE SPRING SEASON  2018……

Softer shades            Bolder shades:

  • Peach                                  Exotic Reds
  • Taupe                                  Toned Down Orange
  • Aqua                                    Happy Yellow
  • Taupe                                   Eucalyptus & Jade Green
  • Dusty Lavender                   Sailor Blue
  • Blush Pink                           Ultra Violet

DARKER FURNITURE…..

We see the return of DARKER wood tones in Retroglam and modern LUXE pieces, so if like me you wanted to start painting all your darker pieces of furniture lighter, remember trends are forever changing so your treasured pieces keep unchanged.

TIP:  A quick and easy way to give an old chair a new look is to re-upholster it using a new fabric that is currently on trend, velvet or linen in soft tones.

MACRAME….

Image credit: New accessories from Sainsburys Home

I remember growing up with MACRAME and at times it feels like we have gone back to the 1970´s. I am not wild for this look but it does add a natural and textured feel to a living space. Using a Macrame plant holder can add a different dimension to your room.

TIP:   Unless you are absolutely wild for this look try and keep it to accessories like plant holders or cushions, its definately a way to add a natural woven texture to your home.

TROPICAL…..

Tropical was a big trend in 2017 and is back again this year, What´s changed is that instead of using the usual bright mix of colours with tropical prints it`s more about using the lush tropical greens and botanicals. Great trend for outdoor entertaining areas.

TIP: Adding some lush greenery like palms or broad leaved plants into your living space his a simple way to give your space a fun tropical feel.

And for my personal favourite, a touch of VELVET….

VELVET adds a modern, luxurious and cozy look to interiors. Introducing this luxurious fabric by way of a single upholster chair or in the form of accessories is a simple way to bring a touch of sophistication into your living space.  Who can resist this amazing fabric that was mostly a winter fabric in the past but now, is all the rage for Spring & Summer 2018.

Would you add any of these Spring & Summer trends to your home decor??  Why not drop me a line with your ideas for Spring/Summer 2017, would love to hear from you.

Celebrate ultra violet, Pantone colour of the year 2018

“Ultra Violet communicates originality, ingenuity, and visionary thinking that points us toward the future”  Pantone Color Institute

Simple ideas to add a little magic to your decor styling…

This years 2018 Pantone colour choice is Ultra Violet, bold but beautifully magical.

Colour has such an influence in our daily lives and this years choice is no exception. Ultra Violet definately encourages us to take a little time out from our hectic schedules and get in touch with our inner selves.

This magical colour has already found it’s way into home decor, wedding events and table styling. When it comes to colour, it’s where and how you use it, that makes the difference. I love keeping on trend by using smaller items to change the look and feel of my home or my table settings.

An alternative to RED for VALENTINE's Day…..

Instead of Red why not use Ultra Violet tones to set the mood for a Valentine’s brunch.

A pop of COLOUR for a magical affair…..

Adding Ultra Violet beads to this setting adds interest.

LOVE the mix of these colour hues….

Pink and purple can be quite sophisticated and luxurious when used together in the correct palette, especially for weddings.
